インドカレーと日本人 Indian Curry and Japanese People
インドがここ数年気になっています。
インドの魅力を一言で言うのは難しいですが、何よりもその古い歴史が魅力的です。
インドの歴史と言いますと、私が受ける印象ですが、「大きな変化を望まない」文化を持っているように感じます。それは例えばガンジーが大きな争いをせずに（無血の戦い）歴史を動かしてきたことからもうかがえるでしょう。
私はデリ、ムンバイ、チェンナイに行ったことがありますが、あのゆったりとした時間の流れは、今の日本の私たちが求めているものに通ずるとも思います。
また、最近のインドの魅力でもう一つ挙げるとすれば、アナログとデジタルが絶妙にミックスしていることです。例えば、牛、羊、豚が放し飼いになっている片隅で、ITや最先端技術を駆使した工場など、モダンな部分を垣間みることができます。
そしてもちろんですが、食文化もとても魅力的です。
インドには大きく分けて北と南の食文化があります。北は四季があり、小麦粉がとれるので、皆様もご存知のナンを食べます。南はとても温かく、年に３回も米がとれるので、米を食べます。なので、カレーそのものも、北はスパイスを油でのばすため、こってりとしたカレーになり、南はスパイスを水でのばすため、サラサラとしたカレーになります。
ご飯にカレーをかけて食べる文化は日本にも定着していますが、日本の食べ方のルーツもここから来ています。
また、辛さについても北と南には違いがあり、北はあまり辛くないのですが、暑い地方である南は辛いです。辛くて油分の少ないカレーをご飯にかけて食べるというスタイルは、日本人にとって懐かしくもあり、求めているものに近いのではないかと私は個人的に思っています。
カレーの話ばかりしていたら、カレーが食べたくなって参りました。笑

I've been interested in India for years.
It is not easy to describe the charms of India in a word, but to me, its old history is very interesting.
Indian people left me with the impression they do not wish for big changes.
I can pick up a good example from Gandhi,. He accomplished a big revolution without shedding bloods.
Ive been to Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai before – I love the slow-paced atmosphere that reigns in those cities. I feel people’s desires of leading a peaceful and relaxed life.
I also like Indian culture's mixture of analog and digital. For example, you will see many cows, sheep and pigs while walking on the streets; but you will also have access to the world’s latest technology while browsing Indian’s market.
Of course, I love their food culture. In India, there are two different ways of cooking.
People in the northern India eat nan bread as you know. In the southern India, people eat rice because the weather is perfect for rice.
Curry itself is different. In north, the texture of curry is thick, and it goes well with nan bread while southern curry is thin, and it's perfect with rice.
Rice with curry is very popular in Japan. The root of this style comes from India.
There is also a difference in spiciness. Northern curry is not so hot compared to Southern-style curry, where the weather is much hotter too.
Rice with thin and spicy curry would suit Japanese taste, I think.
Speaking of curry, I feel like eating some!
